Dele Alli saga edges closer to conclusion after Everton agreement - report

Dele Alli is likely to earn a one-year deal with Everton if he can prove his fitness in the coming weeks, according to Patrick Boyland.

The Athletic journalist provided an update on Alli’s status at Goodison Park in a column for the online outlet on Friday (23 August) where he stated a pivotal month is on the horizon with the 28-year-old on his “best run” of training since the start of his injury issues.

Both Everton and Alli are said to be keen to find an agreement, and a restructuring of an agreement with Tottenham should make a deal easier to be agreed, with Spurs having waived the right to a lump sum should Alli pen fresh terms at Goodison Park. Instead, there are performance-based bonuses and a sell-on clause agreement now agreed (Football London, 14 July)

Boyland added that Alli might start to feature for Everton after the September international break, although that would be limited to behind-closed-doors games until his contract situation is sorted.

Dele deal makes sense for Everton

It has obviously been a difficult couple of years for Dele, who has encountered a torrid run with injuries and was unable to feature for the Toffees at all last season.

He also bravely opened up on his experiences of abuse as a child and the mental health struggles he has encountered in adulthood, and there is a real desire from everyone in the game to see him get back playing at the high standards he showed in his early years at Spurs.

So, the sensible approach being taken by all parties has been good to see and the hope now is that he can keep training, build his fitness and earn a new deal.

For Everton, it makes sense too because they are seriously light on bodies and having a fit and firing Dele could be a huge boost. Hopefully this one works out and there is a happy ending for everyone involved.
