Cammy Bell has labelled Philippe Clement “delusional” for his post-match comments after Rangers lost 2-1 to Aberdeen.
Gers travelled to Pittodrie on Wednesday (30 October) in the Scottish Premiership in what was a massive game for the Light Blues to reduce the gap at the top of the table.
Nedim Bajrami gave the Bears some hope, but Nicky Devlin and Shayden Morris’ goals secured victory for the Dons.
After the game, Clement told Sky Sports [30 October] that Rangers put in one of their best performances against Jimmy Thelin’s team, something Bell disagreed with on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast [31 October].
“The Rangers fans are now listening to Philippe Clement after the game, and I think he is delusional the way he’s talking,” he said.
“What he’s trying to put over to the press and to the fans is completely the opposite to what we are seeing on the pitch.”
Rangers need to part ways with Philippe Clement
It’s clear that the situation is untenable now, with the relationship between the fans and the manager seemingly at a breaking point.
Most of the Ibrox faithful have a completely different view of the defeat, and it’s surprising to see the Belgian manager have a completely opposite assessment.
Instead of holding his players and management accountable, the former Monaco head coach is trying to paint a picture that doesn’t exist.
Clement had a honeymoon period last season after taking over from Michael Beale, with fans keen to see a change in the dugout.
The Belgian hasn’t been able to keep that momentum into the 2024/25 campaign, and things are going downhill each week.
Rangers have now already lost three games in the league and are nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen.
Clement isn’t doing himself any favours by making such statements in the press, and fan sentiment looks to have turned against him, with the 50-year-old’s future up in the air.
In other Rangers news, David Moyes will have to do something in order to replace Clement.
