Dharmesh Sheth drops new Everton-Man United update amid Branthwaite 'Saga'

Manchester United are “unlikely” to submit a second offer for Jarrad Branthwaite unless Everton drop their asking price, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

Writing on his personal X account (20 June), the Sky Sports reporter says the Red Devils “won’t be drawn into a long-running saga” over the 21-year-old defender this summer.

The Toffees have already rejected a £43million bid and are holding firm on their £70million valuation, and United will move on if they feel there is no room for negotiations with other targets lined up having been discussing a fresh offer [Sheth, 17 June] for the England international.

Music to the ears of Everton in bid to keep Jarrad Branthwaite

This may sound like a threat or a warning from Manchester United as they talk about potentially walking away from a deal, but it’s perfect for Everton.

The Toffees are in small financial difficulties but they don’t want to sell Branthwaite, and especially not at a cut-price fee, so if United aren’t going to pay up it’s better that they walk away now than drag it out all summer.

Everton and Aston Villa are helping each other out with PSR issues with deals for Tim Iroegbunam and Lewis Dobbin advanced, with the 20-year-old midfielder on his way to Finch Farm for a medical [Secret Scout, 20 June].

Those financial problems are exactly why United have targeted Branthwaite with a low-ball offer, but if they don’t exist then there’s no pressure for Everton to cave in during negotiations.

If they can keep Branthwaite they’re stronger for the 2024/25 season and can arguably get an even bigger fee next summer if his development continues, so this is good news for the club.

In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin could be set to sack Sean Dyche as manager once he completes his takeover of the club.
