Everton agree outgoing transfer to secure PSR compliance - Paul Joyce

Everton have agreed to sell Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa with the belief it will give them PSR compliance for this year, according to Paul Joyce.

The Times journalist reports that the attacker is “likely” to move to Villa Park in a deal that will see Tim Iroegbunam move to Goodison Park in a separate transaction.

The Toffees believe that the potential compliance with PSR will mean that Jarrad Branthwaite will not be sold to the likes of Manchester United.

Everton being smart in the transfer window for once

In the last few years the club have been criticised for targeting the wrong profile of players and splashing cash aimlessly, but that seems to be changing this year.

Iroegbunam is a transfer that makes a lot of sense as a player with great potential and hunger to improve, in an area where the team have lost Andre Gomes, Dele Alli and are expecting to lose Amadou Onana [TEAMtalk, 15 June].

And with Dobbin, he is way down the pecking order and with more incoming transfers expected this summer an exit makes sense.

The club’s financial situation has to take precedence above anything else and selling the 21-year-old secures pure profit for the books and means the squad is hardly weaker than it was in 2023/24.

It’s a positive move and one fans should get behind, and hopefully, it will allow Sean Dyche to be more shrewd and help the club to a top-half finish in 2024/25.
