Djed Spence transfer approach update at Tottenham ahead of January

Djed Spence is expected to receive approaches to leave Tottenham in the January transfer window amid his lack of game-time, according to Give Me Sport.

It is reported on 9 December that the full-back will have several suitors for a potential loan move in the upcoming window, but Spurs are yet to make clear if he’s in Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

While the Lilywhites are waiting until January to give interested clubs an inclination on Spence’s short-term future, the 24-year-old’s admirers are optimistic that he will be allowed to head out on loan.

Spence has made just five appearances for Spurs, with all signs pointing towards an exit.

While Postecoglou has been willing to give Spence his first-team chance at Spurs for the first time this season, the right-back hasn’t quite made the impact he’d have hoped for in North London.

Pedro Porro remains the clear first-choice on the right flank of Postecoglou’s defence, and despite several injuries to key men in the backline, the Spaniard has been able to retain his place.

With £40million summer signing Archie Gray also able to slot in at right-back if needs be, Spence’s limited minutes only look like decreasing further, leaving his career at a crossroads.

Sent back from last term’s loan to Leeds United early, it’s unlikely that other clubs in England’s second tier will be dissuaded from signing a player who has excelled at Championship level previously.

Indeed, Spurs signed him off the back of his displays in Nottingham Forest’s 2022 charge to promotion, but for Spence to make such an impact again, it’s likely a move away from North London is his best bet.

In other Tottenham news, former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp laid into one player’s “schoolboy” defending against Chelsea.
