Ex-Tottenham employee: Daniel Levy to make Ange Postecoglou sack decision next week

Bryan King expects Daniel Levy to make a decision on Ange Postecoglou’s future based on the next three Tottenham matches.

The ex-Spurs scout has suggested that results need to pick up under the Australian, who is believed to need something “remarkable” to save his long-term future at the club.

Postecoglou is under pressure in North London with Spurs having won just one of their last seven games, although the club reportedly aren’t expected to make any knee-jerk reactions [via The Telegraph, 9 December].

However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks things could quickly change if Postecoglou’s side don’t win any of their next three matches.

“I think it is a wise decision to stick by Postecoglou at this stage,” King said.

“However, matches are running out, we’re nearly halfway through the season. Therefore, results need to pick up. Everybody is elated one minute, and then the next minute they’re down in the dumps. Tottenham are very inconsistent.

“In their next three games, they’re playing in Europe, in the Premier League and in the Carabao Cup. If they win those three games, everybody will be joyful and everybody will be behind the manager and the players. If they don’t win any of those games, it is a whole different story.

“Whether or not Levy will want to get rid of Postecoglou before Christmas, I’m not sure. However, I think a decision will be made one way or the other if Spurs remain outside of the Europa League top eight and are knocked out of the Carabao Cup. I think that could greatly influence things. “

The next three matches feel like three cup finals for Tottenham.

If they are to taste defeat at the Premier League’s bottom club Southampton on Sunday [15 December] or see yet another chance to lift a trophy pass them by, things could get really bad for Postecoglou.

Therefore, he needs three big results, although that could be difficult with the injuries continuing to pile up.

However, injuries or not, it will get to a point where the Australian can no longer make excuses, and losing against the likes of Rangers and Southampton could certainly prove costly.
