'Don't be silly' - Keith Jackson reacts to Cyriel Dessers question at Rangers

Keith Jackson has insisted that Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers is not ready to lead the line at Ibrox once again in the new season.

This comes after the striker has been long-linked with an Ibrox exit despite bagging 22 goals last term.

Jackson was responding to a question in the print edition of the Daily Record (29 July, page 49) that asked whether the striker could lead the line again after two goals against Union Berlin.

“Don’t be silly,” he replied.

“There’s a great deal to admire about Dessers but try as he might, the quality is just not there.

“Rangers need a clinical marksman and they might find him waiting for them at Tynecastle on Saturday.”

Dessers managed to bag a fair few goals last season. The striker was the Gers’ strongest attacker in terms of goals but there were moments where his form was patchy.

Since then, developments have been made and Dessers himself has stated that he’s “very happy” and that he would like to continue playing for the club next season [Ziggo Sport, 13 July].

Despite this recent revelation, sales need to be made if the Gers want to bring in additional reinforcements to improve their chances of winning the Scottish Premiership.

Lawrence Shankland is a striker who has been linked with the Gers [Daily Record, 27 July] for some time now.

He was one of the most clinical attackers in Scotland last season as he managed to bag a total of 31 goals across all competitions.

The Scotsman would be an ideal addition for Philippe Clement, especially given the fact that his contract runs out at the end of the 2024/25 season so a deal could come a lot cheaper than expected.
