Everton should trust Sean Dyche to turn around the club’s flagging fortunes and nothing should be reassessed until the takeover situation is resolved, Michael Ball has said.

Frustrations are running high among the fanbase following three straight defeats to start the Premier League season prior to the international break.

The last of those saw the Toffees throw away a 2-0 lead against Bournemouth from the 87th minute and there have been some calling for Dyche’s head as manager.

Former Everton man Ball, writing in the Liverpool Echo (10 September), thinks it would be foolhardy to think about making a change as uncertainty over the ownership continues.

“People have been talking about Sean Dyche’s future as Everton manager as his record at home has not always been good and we endured the club’s longest ever winless run in the Premier League last season, but I feel while the ownership issue is up in the air, nothing is going to happen. You don’t want more mess added to our situation,” he wrote.

“We’ve just got to trust Dyche to turn it around with this group of players. We’ve got tough games coming up and the takeover is going to take a while and only once that’s complete will we be in a position to reassess where we’re at as a football club.”

Sean Dyche can turn the tide at Everton

Farhad Moshiri remains desperate to sell up his 94.1 per cent stake in Everton after seeing failed moves from 777 Partners and the Friedkin Group lead to nothing.

American businessman John Textor is the latest to be granted exclusivity in a bid to find a deal that works but his takeover cannot happen until he sells a sizeable stake in Crystal Palace.

Which is why Ball is right to be calling for caution, there is enough uncertainty at the moment without making a hasty change in the dugout.

That does not mean Dyche should be beyond criticism and there have been moments where the Toffees have fallen well below the standard required.

But for the majority of that fixture against Bournemouth there were some good signs, it was just a hugely frustrating capitulation. A bit of time and patience is required now to let Dyche try and turn the tide at Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, one former Toffees player has been blasted ahead of a return to Premier League action this weekend.
