Brian Sorensen has confirmed defender Elise Stenevik has sustained an injury and will be out of action for Everton until Christmas.

Ahead of the game against the West Ham Women’s side on 13 October, Sorensen admitted that there was another doubt for the game.

The Toffees currently find themselves last in the WSL table with one point in three games.

Sorensen said, via the club’s official website: “Unfortunately, Elise is going to be out for a while after the injury she got in the Arsenal game. It is her tendon hamstring. [She’ll be out] until Christmas, I assume. That is another big blow for us because she has been quite strong in defence.

“One more [player] I have a question on. They are getting a scan today so we will see, I hope it is nothing serious. Of course, the long-terms are out in Inma, Yaya and Kenzie [Weir]. Karen [Holmgaard] is still building her way back. The rest are available.”

Everton and West Ham are both eyeing their first wins of the season

This upcoming match against West Ham presents an ideal opportunity for the Merseyside outfit to secure their first win of the Women’s Super League season, especially given both teams’ current standings with only one point each from three games.

The Hammers, similar to Everton, are grappling with their form, making this game a critical contest for three points that could significantly lift morale and position in the league.

With injuries plaguing the Toffees, Sorensen faces the challenge of reorganising his squad.

This adversity could galvanise the team, pushing them to find new strengths and tactics.

Sorensen’s ability to adapt and motivate his squad under these circumstances is key.

Winning this match would not only provide a much-needed boost in confidence but also demonstrate Everton’s resilience, setting a positive tone for the rest of the season.
