Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has vowed that he will use his Blues form to ensure he holds on to his status as England’s number one.

New Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel is set to assume control during the next international break in March with Lee Carsley having overseen the Nations League campaign.

Toffees stopper Pickford insists that he will work even harder to maintain his spot in the starting XI when the former Bayern Munich boss takes the reigns.

“There’s definitely new energy and there’s going to be a lot of competition for places but that’s what it’s about,” Pickford said in quotes reported by the Liverpool Echo.

“You want the best players for England at the right moment and hopefully going forward next year we’ve got that squad ready to win.

“For me, I always say you’ve got to be on form for your club to get picked for your country. I’ve always looked at it that way. That’s what I do. I’ll go back to Everton now, I’ll work my [expletive] off”

Jordan Pickford will be key to Everton survival again

The former Sunderland man has made 291 appearances for the Blues and has earned 73 caps for his nation.

He is a key figure in Sean Dyche’s squad and was a huge factor in the club’s survival last campaign, with his 13 clean sheets in the Premier League only being bettered by Arsenal’s David Raya.

So far this season, the 30-year-old has just three clean sheets in 11 matches but the majority of 17 goals that the Blues have conceded in the league came in the first few weeks of the campaign.

In the last six matches in the Premier League, Pickford has conceded just three goals with the majority of the Goodison Park club’s issues coming at the other end of the pitch.

The Toffees need Pickford to maintain that form in the next few weeks with a tough schedule of fixtures coming up, including three games against the current top four in their next six matches.

If the goalkeeper can keep his promise and use his Everton form to keep his spot as the nation’s number one, he very well could be the key to the club’s survival once again.
