Jose Mourinho is a “strong option” to take over from Sean Dyche at Everton once Dan Friedkin completes his takeover, sources have told Football Insider.
The 59-year-old American businessman reached an agreement with incumbent owner Farhad Moshiri to purchase his 94.1 per cent stake in the club.
Mourinho, 61, only took over at Turkish club Fenerbache in the summer but sources have told Football Insider “don’t rule Jose out”.
The three-time Premier League winner has been mentioned in senior circles at the Merseysiders as a contender to replace the struggling Dyche, 53.
Friedkin has a history with Mourinho after appointing him at his other top European club Roma in 2021 following his turbulent spell at Tottenham.

Dyche’s position has been up in the air notwithstanding the takeover negotiations following a dismal start to the season before Everton secured their first win in six Premier League matches last weekend.
Friedkin, 59, who also owns Italian side Roma, is believed to have told his inner circle that he does not regard Dyche as a viable long-term manager of the club and the right manager to lead them out at the new stadium.
The former Burnley boss is out of contract at the end of the season and sources at Everton do not expect his deal to be extended.
With a win rate of just 34 per cent, Dyche’s tenure at Everton is his least successful as a manager with 24 wins, 17 draws, and 30 defeats.
Everton are set to leave Goodison Park for their new 52,888-seater stadium at Liverpool’s Bramley-Moore Dock next year, and under Dyche, they face the very real threat of doing so while in the Championship.
Dyche’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and sources at Everton don’t expect it to be renewed.
They next face a tricky home tie against a Newcastle United side buoyed by an impressive 1-1 draw with current Premier League champions Man City on Saturday (September 28).
