Everton forced to reject fresh loan bid due to contract situation at Goodison - report

Everton have rejected a loan-to-buy offer from Marseille for Neal Maupay because he would have to sign a new contract, according to Liverpool Echo.

The online outlet reported on 20 August that the Toffees would have to offer the Frenchman a new deal to receive a fee at the end of a loan.

A temporary offer, with an option to buy, from the Ligue 1 giants has been turned down [David Ornstein].

Everton remains hopeful that they can secure a permanent move away for the 28-year-old while OM are only in the market for a loan.

The former Brentford star has had a difficult time of things at Goodison Park, failing to discover any sort of goalscoring form.

In his initial spell with the Bees, the striker was on fire in the Championship and was in high demand before securing a move to Brighton.

Since then it has been mainly downhill for Maupay who has never managed to truly find his feet in the Premier League.

What may hand him some hope is the uncertainty surrounding the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto who could be set to leave.

However, it has to be said that Sean Dyche clearly has little faith in the Frenchman who has only ever made 33 appearances for the Toffees [FotMob].

A move away could prove to make sense for all parties then but given his lack of output, there isn’t likely to be a large number of suitors as the transfer deadline moves closer.
