Everton have a “strong” interest in signing Sevilla sensation Stanis Idumbo after being “hugely impressed” by the teenager, Caught Offside reports.
According to the outlet’s website on 4 November the Toffees have already sent representatives to watch the attacking midfielder in action and liked what they saw, since his recent emergence in the first team.
Aston Villa and Brighton have also had a look at the 19-year-old “wonderkid”, while European sides Benfica and Borussia Dortmund are keen on him as well.
Sevilla are reportedly not looking to sell so it is expected to require a sizeable offer to tempt them to part with Idumbo, who has made his first five senior appearances for the La Liga side this term, scoring once.
Everton set for financial boost from Dan Friedkin takeover
Toffees supporters will be hoping that the days of little genuine hope in an expensive transfer race are soon consigned to the past.
Dan Friedkin’s takeover of the club from Farhad Moshiri is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, and the American has already helped lift the financial gloom around the club even before the deal is done [Liverpool Echo, 1 October].
It is surely going to take the Roma chief’s riches to finance a move for an in-demand talent like Idumbo, although it remains to be seen how much space there is to spend in the immediate term.
Finance expert Kieran Maguire has already predicted Friedkin would like to make a statement signing upon arrival at Goodison Park [TBR Football, 22 October], but whether that is possible from a PSR perspective in the January transfer window is uncertain.
The Athletic’s Matt Slater believes the reason behind Friedkin rushing back into the frame to beat John Textor to a takeover agreement in September was due to having an eye on strengthening the playing staff in the winter window [The Toffee Blues, 27 September].
But whether a 19-year-old developing talent is the immediate priority, especially if Sean Dyche remains in charge until the end of the campaign, is probably doubtful.
Sevilla may prefer to keep hold of the youngster until the summer or beyond, so he could remain a longer-term target for Everton under Friedkin’s control, once the new owner has improved the commercial picture at the club and freed up more scope to invest in signings.
In other Everton news, The Friedkin Group’s stance on a host of exit-bound players could see a very different squad next term.
