Everton make approach to sign Roma attacker - report

Everton have approached AS Roma over a deal for Tammy Abraham, according to Gianluigi Longari.

The Sport Italia journalist reported via his personal X account [30 July] that the Toffees are interested in signing the 26-year-old striker.

It is understood, as per Corriere della Sara [17 June], that Abraham is open to a Premier League return this summer, with Roma setting a £25.3million price tag amid interest from Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa.

Considering his previous experiences with Chelsea and Villa in England, the Roma striker could be the perfect signing for Sean Dyche’s side this summer.

The attacking third of the pitch was one of the biggest concerns last term, with only Sheffield United scoring fewer Premier League goals than the Toffees.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit a purple patch in the final few games of the campaign, most likely saving the club from relegation, but he has now been linked with a £20million move away from Goodison Park [Joe Thomas].

Abdoulaye Doucoure equalled the striker’s goal tally for the season, notching seven each in the league, showcasing the huge problem that Dyche needs to address this summer.

Of course, the new addition of Iliman Ndiaye will somewhat reduce the concern, but Beto is nowhere near the quality needed to lead the line, with five goals in Everton colours since arriving last summer.

While Abraham was dealt a massive injury blow last season, making just two starts in Serie A, he looks to have recovered and is not likely to be absent like Calvert-Lewin has been over the years.

His record in England speaks for itself. He notched 30 goals in 79 appearances at Stamford Bridge after returning from Villa Park, where he scored 26 goals in 40 appearances during a sensational Championship campaign.

Abraham would certainly be a smart purchase if the Toffees can fend off interest from fellow clubs for his signature.

In other Everton news, a stance on Jarrad Branthwaite has emerged as the Toffees have a double exit on the cards.
