Everton made an enquiry to sign Largie Ramazani and decided against making a move, seeing Leeds United winning the race, according to Harry Watkinson.
The TEAMtalk journalist issued an update on Toffees’ stance as Fabrizio Romano reported on 21 August that the Almeria left winger is set to seal a £9.9million move to Elland Road.
The 23-year-old Belgian spent three seasons at Manchester United before moving to Spain in 2020.
Via X, Watkinson wrote: “Leeds Utd win the race for Largie Ramazani as per FabrizioRomano, Everton made enquiries but decided against an offer.”
Everton need to strengthen in midfield and defence and not on the left wing
The Toffees’ decision not to pursue Ramazani, despite initial interest, aligns with their strategic focus this transfer window.
They have already secured Jesper Lindstrom and Iliman Ndiaye this summer, both of whom can operate on the left wing, thereby fulfilling the positional need.
Instead, Everton’s transfer strategy appears to be centred on bolstering their midfield and defence.
This approach is driven by the necessity to reinforce these areas for tactical balance and depth.
The midfield requires strengthening to enhance creativity and control, especially after Amadou Onana’s exit and Idrissa Gueye’s struggles against Brighton, while the defence, particularly the right-back position, needs attention due to the ageing profiles of current players like Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman.
A new left-back transfer cannot be ruled out either as Vitalii Mykolenko needs some cover and competition if the Toffees are to progress.
In other Everton, a bid update has emerged as the Toffees have opened concrete talks to sign a new midfielder.
