Everton not ruled out new contract for exit-linked star, talks to be held - report

Everton have not ruled out offering Jarrad Branthwaite a new contract to extend his stay at Goodison Park, according to Sky Sports.

The outlet reported on its website on Friday (13 September) that the Toffees are set to hold talks in the coming weeks to find a way to reward the defender for his progress in his time on Merseyside.

Sean Dyche’s side are believed to be relaxed when it comes to the 22-year-old’s situation as his current deal isn’t due to expire until the summer of 2027, with the Toffees possessing the option to extend it by a year.

The Toffees know that they will have to complete one big sale a year to become more sustainable, but they will not sell their big-name stars for cut-price fees as demonstrated by their refusal to negotiate with Manchester United for Branthwaite.

While the Toffees can be criticised for getting a lot of major decisions wrong at Goodison Park over the last few years, they should be applauded for standing by their valuation when it comes to Branthwaite.

Given the financial issues at the football club over the last couple of seasons, the Blues would have been forgiven for cashing in on one of their biggest assets to balance the books and irradicate any fears of another point deduction.

Instead, they have not only managed to keep the 22-year-old on Merseyside but also are now considering tying him down to a new deal, which would only increase his market value ahead of future transfer windows.

Hopefully, an agreement will be able to be reached between the player and the club sooner rather than later so that any speculation around his future can be put to bed before it even begins in the run-up to the January window.

Maybe, a different approach may be needed next summer if the Toffees are reliant on another big sale to remain sustainable.

Who knows what Branthwaite could be worth by the end of the Premier League campaign?
