Everton are set to spend around £10million on a deal to sign Tim Iroegbunam with a move now close, according to HITC.
The outlet has reported on their website (18 June) that with Aston Villa needing to sell to avoid a profit and sustainability breach, and former Goodison star Ross Barkley set to join their midfield, talks between the two clubs are “not far away” from success.
Iroegbunam, 20, is said to be “keen” on a Toffees switch after being informed by Unai Emery that he would remain down the pecking order at Villa Park next season, while Everton view him as a good future prospect.
According to The Athletic earlier on 18 June the move for the ex-West Brom youngster comes in the context of a possible departure for Amadou Onana, and personal terms are not expected to be any issue to agree with Iroegbunam.

The £10m fee may not be huge for a Premier League club but heading into the summer few would have expected Everton to be spending anything like it within the first week of the transfer window, with Sky Sports reporting on 11 June the club were in an “extremely difficult” position in the market.
Aston Villa’s willingness to sell certainly makes things easier, but the fact the Toffees look to be about to commit to another transfer fee when two are already committed to this month suggests the work behind the scenes at Goodison has cut costs sufficiently to reduce the PSR pressure.
It also may mean that with multiple enquiries already made for Belgium international Onana [The Times, 14 June] there is confidence that a sale for the star midfielder is on the cards sooner rather than later.
And it certainly suggests that the determination to hold out for anything but a full-price deal for Jarrad Branthwaite isn’t a bluff in the face of Manchester United looking for a bargain but a genuine stance [Mirror, 14 June].
Signing Iroegbunam is surely more a matter of potential rather than a player that would be expected to make an instant impact, although he might argue that given more chances he could produce a lot more, after just one Premier League start last term.
In other Everton news, there have been claims that Dan Friedkin’s takeover could collapse with rivals still interested.
