Four Lads Had A Dream’s Stevie Clifford has named three midfield players he expects to depart Rangers this summer, speaking on the Rangers Review live stream.

Discussing the Gers squad with Derek Clark on the platform’s YouTube channel [14 June] as the transfer window officially opens, Clifford identified Tom Lawrence, Kieran Dowell and Todd Cantwell as likely players to leave Ibrox.

It was added that a midfield of Mohamed Diomande, Nico Raskin and potential new signing Connor Barron would be “decent”, but must still be improved upon in terms of squad depth.

“Lawrence, Dowell and Cantwell I think could all be moved on this summer,” Clifford stated, to the agreement of Clark.

“I’m not sure there’s a massive future for them here, maybe one will survive – I’m not sure. I think we’ll be open to business, Derek.

“Would [a midfield of] Barron-Diomande-Raskin be good enough? I think it would be fairly decent … but we need somebody else. [Dujon] Sterling could be included – but there’s still business there [to be done]. We need another midfielder, possibly two.”

Rangers have plenty still to do in the market

Whilst Philippe Clement and the recruitment staff’s job of overhauling the Rangers squad is well documented, the midfield has been branded as a key area for reinforcements.

The capture of Barron would be a good start, but having lost several experienced midfield men, the Light Blues must recruit smartly and ascertain the best positions of some of their squad.

Sterling is an example of that – the Englishman has been debated on the live stream by Clifford and Clark as a midfielder, but would be considered foremost a defender – and it was referenced that the 24-year-old could fill the right-back berth should skipper James Tavernier move on this year.

The incomings so far have been encouraging, with Jefte and Clinton Nsiala broadening Clement’s back line options. Diomande has of course been purchased with the club’s obligation in midfield, but this is bound to be just a fraction of Rangers’ summer trade.

In other Rangers news, the clubs who allegedly rivalled the Gers for Nsiala have been revealed.
