Everton 'strong contenders' to sign Chelsea star, they need to raise funds - report

Everton are “strong contenders” to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja this summer, according to Jacob Steinberg.

Writing on his personal X account (30 June), the Guardian journalist reports that the Albania forward is a candidate to be sold by the Stamford Bridge club as they need to raise funds.

Several other clubs are interested in a deal for the 22-year-old and there is still “work to be done” on any deal to take him to Goodison Park.

Everton to move for Armando Broja if Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaves?

There has been a lot of talk about the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Goodison Park this summer, but it seems that the club have got their contingency plan in place.

The 27-year-old has been offered a new deal [Liverpool Echo, 31 May] at the club as he enters the final 12 months of his contract, but the player is not inclined to sign it [Times, 22 June] and Newcastle United’s interest in a deal isn’t dead [Luke Edwards, 24 June] despite initial talks collapsing [Alan Myers, 24 June].

But should that deal rear it’s head again and the Magpies find a deal with the Toffees for their talisman, then you would expect Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell to move quickly to bring Broja in.

The likelihood is that Chelsea have set their price already and Everton will know it, so any deal for Calvert-Lewin is likely to go right towards paying for a replacement.

Broja’s goal record isn’t the most impressive, especially since his ACL injury, but the talent is evident and with Iliman Ndiaye also close to joining Everton could have a new look forward line next season.

In other Everton news, one attacker has rejected the Toffees to sign for their Premier League rivals.
