Everton Takeover: Keith Wyness verdict on Friedkin poss failing PL's owners & director's test

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed The Friedkin Group’s takeover could be fully completed within “six weeks”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted “stability is now back at the club” and his old side have a “bright future” ahead.

Everton confirmed last week (21 June) that Friedkin has been granted a period of exclusivity to acquire a majority shareholding in the club.

As per The Athletic (24 June), the American billionaire has already repaid a £158million debt and provided funds of around £40million to help with running costs.

Friedkin will also undergo due diligence of the club, which has been majority-owned by Farhad Moshiri since 2018.

Friedkin to be confirmed as new Everton owner on the eve of 2024-25 season, says Wyness

Wyness claimed the 59-year-old will “sail through” the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test.

told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think if everything goes well, we’re talking about six weeks until everything is signed off and completed.

“That includes the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test, which I think Friedkin will sail through pretty well.

“Six weeks would be the perfect situation.

“We’re therefore looking at around the start of the season for Friedkin to officially come in.

“The main thing is that we take comfort from the fact that things are progressing and the stability is back at the club.

“We can get money into the club, if needed, right now.

“Everybody should be happy that things are starting to stabilise and the club now has a bright future.

“This is a key season. The club has got to stay in the Premier League.”
