Everton could accept offers for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in January in a last-ditch attempt to raise some money from his sale.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected within the game, insisted that they will weigh up the value of keeping him compared to selling him.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 29 November that his contract situation is a concern for the Toffees, but they are reluctant to see him leave the club in January.
However, Robinson has claimed that Everton should look to cash in on the 27-year-old as he is unlikely to score enough goals to make a difference to their league position.
Calvert-Lewin has scored just two goals in 12 Premier League games so far this season while Everton have struggled to find the net regularly, with no goals in their last five games.
He was axed from the starting XI for Sunday’s 4-0 drubbing at Man United, only coming on as a 67th minute replacement for Beto.
AC Milan and Newcastle have both been linked with potential moves for the striker as a result of his contract situation, and could be tempted to make a move.
Everton told to cash in on Dominic Calvert-Lewin in late January twist
Calvert-Lewin’s hold-up play and aerial ability is viewed as a key part of the way Sean Dyche’s team plays, but his lack of threat in front of goal is a concern.
As a result, Robinson has insisted the club should attempt to raise money from his sale if interested clubs make a move in the January window.
“He hasn’t scored double figures in the last three seasons,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s not two in 12 this season, last season he got eight in 38 and the season before he got two in 18, then five in 18 before that.
“So you’re talking about a player who, on his day, is potentially a very good striker.
“But when you look at his injury record and goalscoring record… the only reason he’s being linked to these clubs is because his contract is up in June.
“Everton are at a cross-roads about what to do now, if they’re going to try to get some value out of him or allow him to run his contract down.
“My take on it is, what is that player worth to the club? How many goals and how many league positions are they going to be better off by keeping him?
“At the moment, you don’t see the value in keeping him until the end of the season.
“Is he going to score the goals to get them into mid table or challenging for Europe? No.
“There’s an argument to cash in on him in January for whatever money they can get for him.”
