Boulaye Dia is “increasingly likely” to move to the Premier League amid interest from Everton, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper reported in its print edition [30 July, page 35] that Salernitana’s Director of Football, Gianluca Petrachi, is working on a deal to get a higher figure if the 27-year-old is to leave for England.
It is understood that the Toffees are not the only ones interested, with West Ham United, Newcastle and Brentford all interested in acquiring the striker.
Everton ready to seal Boulaye Dia transfer at Goodison Park
Given the Senegalese’s long-standing transfer links to West Ham, it would be a surprise if Dia was not to eventually make the switch to the Premier League.
With several teams now vying for his signature, this seems like the best year for the 27-year-old to fulfil any footballing dreams of playing in England.
After a difficult season in the final third for Sean Dyche’s side, attacking reinforcements will have been one of the biggest priorities heading into the summer transfer window.
While Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit a purple patch towards the end of the campaign, likely saving the Toffees from Premier League relegation, the 27-year-old only hit seven goals throughout the entire season.
The England international was joined by midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure at the top of the scoring list, showcasing the scoring problem at Goodison Park, which was emphasised by the fact that only Sheffield United scored netted fewer times last season.
Beto was certainly no help, having only scored five goals in all competitions since joining from Udinese last summer, but Dia might not be the solution to Dyche’s problems.
The Salernitana striker only has four goals in 18 appearances since making his move permanent, though he did notch 16 goals in 33 appearances during his prior loan spell in Serie A.
The Toffees must be careful with who they decide to bring in as attacking reinforcement, and given his recent goalscoring record, he may not be the right answer this summer.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have made a new decision on Wilfried Gnonto as a transfer twist emerges at Goodison Park.
