Everton enter talks with inner circle of star midfielder for new transfer - report

Everton have held transfer talks with the inner circle of Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra, sources have told Caught Offside.

The online source reported [30 July] that the 20-year-old is open to a Premier League move, but will not push for a transfer out of respect for Strasbourg.

While the Ligue 1 club is opposed to losing their star midfielder, it is understood that a £25.6million to £29.5million price tag has been set amid interest from the Toffees [L’Equipe].

Habib Diarra to replace Amadou Onana at Everton?

The 20-year-old midfielder has been a sensation since making his breakthrough into the Strasbourg first team, making 69 appearances since 2021.

Diarra has experienced two full seasons in the top flight, notching six goals and three assists from central midfield, attracting multiple clubs due to his ability on the ball.

Although he is naturally a midfielder, the youngster looks to be somewhat of a utility player, having deputised on either flank and as an attacking midfielder when called upon.

After Amadou Onana’s exit, Sean Dyche will be keen to add another body into the middle of the park, with Tim Iroegbunam the only signing in the position so far.

The Belgian’s move to Villa Park should open up some funds as the Toffees begin to stress over the financial situation at the club once again following Dan Friedkin’s decision to pull out of the takeover.

Former Everton scout Bryan King exclusively told Goodison News on 7 July that the takeover hit a “stumbling block” due to the money that was owed to 777 Partners.

Despite this, Dyche and Kevin Thelwell have continued their transfer plans without a hitch, with Jake O’Brien set to arrive [Alan Myers], and Diarra could be a statement signing this summer.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have made an approach for AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham.
