The Premier League will find it difficult to find a new date for the Merseyside Derby between Everton and Liverpool more than any other game, according to Keith Hackett.
The final-ever league game between the Toffees and the Reds at Goodison Park on 7 December was called off due to Storm Darragh, but Hackett believes the Premier League will already be in discussions with the clubs and broadcasters to reschedule the fixture.
However, the former FIFA referee, who has already mooted a huge financial loss to the hosts, is unsure if they will be able to find a new date considering how tight the fixture schedule already is.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Hackett said: “The League will be on the case immediately looking to reschedule which involves discussions with each club and the television companies.
Everton v Liverpool reschedule difficult as Premier League immediately on case
“Not an easy task when the schedule is already tight and European cup games, FA Cup games, etc have already been resolved.
“The Merseyside Derby game is the difficult one.”
Everton will be disappointed to have seen the game get called off not only because the rescheduling is going to cost them financially but also because they would have been positive about their chances of taking at least a point off Liverpool.
Sean Dyche’s men ended their five-game winless run in spectacular fashion, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Wolves at home on Wednesday [7 December], while their Merseyside rivals were held to a 3-3 draw in Newcastle.
Meanwhile, a section of the Toffees faithful will now be hopeful that the final-ever league game between the two sides at Goodison Park will now be played under the lights later in the season.
With the calendar already packed, it remains to be seen when all parties can agree to reschedule the fixture, however.
