Exclusive: £75m England star could now be sold in January as Tottenham and Liverpool circle

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool both have high hopes for the season after falling short of their targets last year.

Spurs were so close to finishing in the Premier League’s top four but had to settle for fifth, while the Reds fell out of the title race with just weeks to go.

Both Tottenham and Liverpool made some exciting signings in the summer transfer window, but there was a feeling that both could have done more.

For instance, Spurs opted not to move for a new centre-back, but this is something they may well revisit in wake of Radu Dragusin’s poor error and red card against Qarabag.

Likewise, Liverpool could do with bringing in a new centre-back after they lost Joel Matip to a free transfer and didn’t replace him.

Now, the Lilywhites and the Reds have been alerted to a significant development regarding Marc Guehi’s situation at Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace could sell Marc Guehi in January amid Tottenham and Liverpool interest

TBR Football understands that Palace have told Guehi that they will sell him in 2025 if he refuses to sign a new contract.

Guehi saw a move to Newcastle United break down, but he is out-of-contract in 2026 and Palace want him to extend his stay.

However, TBR Football understands that Guehi is showing little enthusiasm to sit down with Palace as it stands and has told them he wants to concentrate on playing.

TBR Football is told that Palace would consider a sale in January, if it is apparent that a new deal is not going to be agreed.

Palace demanded £75million from the Magpies in the summer, and it looks likely they will drop their demands.

We are told Newcastle’s interest does remain, but Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Chelsea are all keeping close tabs on the situation.

Guehi set to spark transfer frenzy

Guehi featured prominently on the transfer rumour mill over the summer, and it’s not surprising as he’s such a brilliant player.

At just 24 years old, he’s not even in his prime yet as a central defender, and he’s more than proven at Premier League and international level.

Oliver Glasner was proud that Guehi stayed put at Palace over the summer, but with the player’s contract set to expire in 2026, the Eagles will have to be mindful of how his value could depreciate.

Palace can’t risk going into the summer with Guehi’s contract expiring the following year, as clubs could then decide to sit tight for a further 6-12 months and get him for little to nothing.

Therefore, a January sale would be the best thing for the Eagles to do, although at this point they may struggle to get the £75million they demanded over the summer.
