Gareth Bale has been ranking and rating some of the best free-kick takers in Premier League history.
Bale knew how to take a free-kick himself pretty well. The attacker scored so many long-range free-kicks for Wales, combining power and precision brilliantly from dead ball situations.
Speaking to Mail Sport on TikTok, Bale has been rating some of the best free-kick takers in the history of the Premier League, and he made an interesting claim about Nottingham Forest’s James Ward-Prowse.
Bale actually had Ward-Prowse down as the best of the bunch, claiming that he was actually better than the likes of David Beckham and Thierry Henry from set piece situations.
Gareth Bale makes James Ward-Prowse claim
Bale spoke highly of the Nottingham Forest star.
“Gareth Bale or James Ward-Prowse?” Bale was asked.
“I’d probably go James Ward-Prowse to be honest with you,” Bale said.
“Ward-Prowse or Didier Drogba?”
“Ward-Prowse,” Bale responded.
“Ward-Prowse or Thierry Henry?”
“Ward-Prowse,” Bale stated.
“James Ward-Prowse or David Beckham?”
“I’d probably go with James Ward-Prowse actually,” Bale concluded
James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick record
Bale says that James Ward-Prowse is the best free-kick taker in Premier League history, and it’s hard to argue with him.
Indeed, Ward-Prowse has scored 17 free kicks in the Premier League, and he’s just one away from equalling David Beckham’s record tally of 18.
The debate really is between Ward-Prowse and Beckham, but the Forest star is on track to beat the former England captain’s record.
Of course, Ward-Prowse has played more Premier League matches than Beckham as Becks headed off to Real Madrid at the peak of his powers, so that does have to be taken into account.
Beckham still holds the record, so, for the moment, he wears the crown, but if Ward-Prowse can bag a couple of free kicks for Forest this season, he will level that record.
