Ange Postecoglou could be left with a huge problem if Fraser Forster joins Guglielmo Vicario in the Tottenham treatment room, Paul Robinson has said.
Spurs could already be without their first-choice shot-stopper for months after suffering a fractured ankle against Manchester City last month [BBC Sport], with Forster stepping in to cover for him.
While the veteran has been praised during his nine appearances of the campaign so far, an injury would leave Postecoglou with academy graduates Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman to choose from.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “Fraser Forster has done well since coming in for Vicario. He’s been unfortunate with the goals he’s conceded and he will have made Ange’s mind up about whether they go into the market or not.
“Until January comes, I don’t think they’ll have made up their minds over a new No.1 or a backup for Foster but I do think they will go into the market.
“Looking at the other two goalkeepers, Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman, 25 and 26 years old respectively, they have very limited Premier League minutes between them.
“Austin has been on loan with Orlando City in 2021, Whiteman’s had two loans in Sweden, so if anything happens to Forster, Spurs are in the deep end with two very inexperienced goalkeepers.”
Tottenham to sign new goalkeeper after Guglielmo Vicario injury?
An injury to Forster would be detrimental to Spurs’ season, especially when Austin and Whiteman share a single senior appearance between them at the Hotspur Stadium.
That single appearance comes from Whiteman, who made his debut in 2020 as an 82nd-minute replacement for Joe Hart in the Europa League.
Those stats could certainly push Postecoglou and his staff to search for a new goalkeeper addition, especially if Vicario is set to be unavailable for months rather than weeks.
In other Tottenham news, one gem can silence an “unbelievable” player ahead of their clash against Manchester United.
