Exclusive: Leeds agree deal with former West Ham star, he's an international champion
Leeds are signing former Crystal Palace star Cheikou Kouyate.
Leeds United have decided to raid the free agency market to bolster their promotion push.
Daniel Farke’s side have suffered the blow of losing midfield stars Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu to injury and neither will be back until 2025.
Leeds have been forced to look for replacements and now they have moved for Senegal international Cheikou Kouyate.
Cheikou Kouyate agrees deal to join Leeds
TBR Football can reveal that Leeds have agreed terms with Kouyate and he is set to put pen-to-paper over the weekend.
Sources have confirmed to TBR Football that Kouyate underwent a medial in West Yorkshire on Friday and he will finalise his move on Saturday.
We are told the initial deal is until the end of the season with an option to extend it by a further year.
Kouyate, who won the 2021 African Cup of Nations with Senegal, has been a free agent since the summer when he left Nottingham Forest.
Gruev and Ampadu injuries force move
Leeds have moved for 34-year-old Kouyate after midfielders Gruev and Ampadu suffered knee injuries.
Welsh star Ampadu, Leeds’ captain, sustained ligament damage against Coventry last month and he is set to be out until January at least.
The loss of Ampadu was quickly followed by Bulgarian international Gruev going down against Norwich City and he went under the knife to overcome a meniscus injury, which will mean he is set to miss out until around March.
