Exclusive: Leeds bid submitted, German club will accept £7m offer

Koln will accept an offer worth £7million for Dejan Ljubicic after turning down an initial bid from Leeds United, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Leeds are pushing to get a deal over the line before the transfer deadline arrives on 30 August.

The Yorkshire club have already seen a bid rejected for the midfielder, but are preparing a new offer closer to the Koln’s asking price.

Daniel Farke is desperate to strengthen his midfield after losing key players from last season’s squad in Archie Gray and Glen Kamara earlier this summer.

Ljubicic has been a long-term target at Elland Road, and sources say he is keen to make the move to the Championship in a boost to their negotiations.

Leeds United pushing to complete Dejan Ljubicic signing

Ljubicic joined Koln from Rapid Vienne after his contract expired in 2021, and the German outfit are looking to maximise their profits.

The midfielder has made 94 appearances since making the move, scoring eight goals and providing ten assists from the middle of the park.

He has represented Austria from Under-17 to senior level, making nine appearances for his country, although he has not represented them since 2023.

Ljubicic has one year remaining on his deal with the German outfit and is keen to move on after their relegation to the 2 Bundesliga last season.

A move to the Championship would represent a step up in his career and a boost to Leeds’ ambition to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds, meanwhile, are desperate to strengthen their squad after a turbulent summer window and have made the signing of a central midfielder a priority.

Talks between the clubs are ongoing, but there is a positive feeling at Elland Road that they will reach an agreement before 31 August.

In other news, Leeds are in talks to sign three new players before the transfer deadline.
