Aston Villa are preparing to sell Lucas Digne in this transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Digne is “in danger” of being moved on this summer.
The 30-year-old is likely to be deemed surplus to requirements heading into the new season following the signing of Ian Maatsen from Chelsea.
The younger left-back is expected to be the first choice after making the move from Stamford Bridge, which raises questions about Digne’s future.
Villa have had a busy window so far with more ins than outs as Unai Emery prepares his squad to compete in the Champions League next season.
The books will have to be balanced at Villa Park, and that could lead to more departures taking place before the window closes this summer.
Aston Villa are willing to let Lucas Digne depart despite being a regular
The France international is under contract at Villa Park until 2026 and has been a regular since he joined the club.
Digne has played 93 games in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing 10 assists.
The left-back also had a crucial role in helping Villa gain Champions League football last season by playing in 33 of their Premier League fixtures.
Another player who is expected to leave the club this summer is Moussa Diaby.
