Exclusive: Leeds 'keen' to open new contract talks with 26-yr-old

Leeds United are “keen” to open new contract talks with Dan James, sources have told Football Insider.

The Wales international is currently under contract with the Yorkshire giants until the summer of 2026.

However, Leeds want to avoid the 26-year-old from entering the final 18 months of his deal with no agreement in place.

Leeds will be vulnerable to selling James next year if a new deal isn’t agreed, and the club are keen to avoid that scenario.

James has been at the club since 2021 and has made three appearances for the Whites so far this season.

The winger has missed the previous three league matches because of a hamstring injury, which is currently keeping him on the sidelines.

Leeds United want to extend Dan James’ stay at Elland Road

James has already opened his account this season when scoring against Sheffield Wednesday during Leeds’ 2-0 win.

The Welshman has made 89 appearances for the West Yorkshire side since joining the club, scoring 18 goals and providing 12 assists.

The club are now keen to extend his current deal at Elland Road to secure his long-term future.

Daniel Farke’s side are currently sixth in the Championship after the first six games, having only suffered one defeat.

The Whites will be back in action on September (29 September) as they play against Coventry.
