Leeds United fans are convinced the club have just found their new 'conductor'

Leeds United fans were wowed by Ao Tanaka after his cameo performance during their Championship victory against Cardiff City.

Daniel Farke’s side cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory at the Cardiff City Stadium thanks to goals from Largie Ramazani and Joel Piroe.

However, it was the 90th-minute substitution who caught the eye of many in the away end after a composed display in the middle of the park.

Tanaka, 26, finished the game with a 100 per cent pass accuracy, completing 25 passes as he helped Leeds dictate the tempo of the closing stages. (Sofascore)

The midfielder has featured just three times since his arrival from Fortuna Dusseldorf in the summer, playing a combined nine minutes under Farke.

Despite his limited minutes, though, fans are calling for the Japan international to play more of a prominent role in the first team.

Following the clash with Cardiff, fans took to social media to slam Ilia Gruev for his display after he showed a lack of cutting-edge or threat in the final third.

Now, many are calling for Tanaka to replace his teammate in the starting XI in their next game.

As well as his 100 per cent passing accuracy, it was highlighted that the midfielder completed more passes than any opposition player – despite his late introduction.

The control he can provide to Farke’s side, and a more positive passing mentality than the usual two-defensive midfielder setup, is seen as a huge boost by the fans.

Taking to social media following the game, supporters were amazed by the new signing’s impact as they called for him to feature more prominently.
