Erik Ten Hag survives beyond international break
TBR Football understands that some within the meeting did think the time was right to end Ten Hag’s tenure, but they did not come to an overall agreement.
Sources have told TBR Football that one of the main concerns within the club is United’s ability, or lack of it, to qualify for the Champions League.
A title challenge was not demanded of Ten Hag after he was handed a new contract in the summer, but it was made clear to the Dutchman that it was not must an improvement on last season’s 8th place finish – United worst in the EPL era – that was needed.
Champions League qualification crucial for United
Untied need to be in the Champions League and as it stands, such has been the poor start to the season, the Europa League already looks their best bet of qualification.
Sources have confirmed to TBR Football that whilst Ten Hag will be in charge for the games after the international break against Brentford and Fenerbahce, but those games could again have a major bearing on his future.
We are also told that the fact the footballing hierarchy are not fully in agreement on who could replace Ten Hag, and this is also a reason that they have not dispensed with the services of the former Ajax boss.
The club are well aware of their options for a new boss, as they did their due diligence in the summer before deciding to keep Ten Hag.
It is understood that Ten Hag himself is fully concentrated on preparing for the Brentford as he has not been informed that his position is under threat.
