'I'm told that': Fabrizio Romano shares what Chelsea players think of Enzo Maresca behind the scenes

Chelsea have enjoyed a bright start to the season and are firmly in the top-four picture going into the October international break.

The Blues have had a tumultuous few years, with five permanent managers at the helm of the club since the turn of the decade.

Chelsea had Mauricio Pochettino in charge last season, but the club parted company with him at the end of the campaign.

The Blues appointed Enzo Maresca in July, and he has done very well in his first few months at Stamford Bridge.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on how things are behind the scenes at the club, including what the Chelsea players think of Maresca.

Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea players are happy with Enzo Maresca

Romano, writing on CaughtOffside, said he’s been told that Maresca has had a very good impact on the players from both a tactical perspective and in terms of his man-management.

“It’s been a really strong start to the season for Chelsea and I think Enzo Maresca deserves credit after his arrival this summer in what was not the easiest moment,” wrote Romano.

“Mauricio Pochettino had also done well towards the end of last season, but the club decided to go in a different direction, though it now looks like it’s proved to be a smart call, even on an inexperienced name in his first Premier League job.

“I’m told that Maresca is having a very good impact on these players on the tactical point of view, and also the results of that have clearly been good.

“But most important part is the feeling he created with the players; they’re all very happy with Maresca, how direct and clear he is, also the fans are appreciating that and you can feel a different atmosphere at Stamford Bridge this season.”

What Maresca has made of his time at Chelsea so far

Chelsea have only lost one domestic match this season, and that came in Maresca’s first game in charge against Manchester City.

The Blues have 14 points so far this season, and they’re also in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and are up and running in the Europa Conference League with victory over Gent.

Maresca told the Chelsea website after the draw with Nottingham Forest: “Yes [I am happy].

“When we started the season, to think by the second international break you are fourth, the way the team are playing, the way the team are learning to play different kinds of games, for sure I am very happy.

‘We have 14 points from seven games, it is important, but for me it is also important to see the way we got 14 points – it has been in different ways, in different types of games, home and away.

“Against a team like today, who sit back and try to be aggressive, you have to use different weapons, but I think in general, we are very happy with where we are but for sure we can do many things better.”
