Kevin de Bruyne could be tempted to quit Man City at the end of his current deal in a big-money move to the Saudi Pro League.
Football Insider reported on 30 September that talks with De Bruyne have been put on the back burner due to concerns about his mixed fitness record.
Now, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, has revealed exclusively to Football Insider that a “big” offer from Saudi Arabia could be enough to tempt the midfielder away from England.
The 33-year-old is set to see his current deal expire in the summer of 2025 amid strong interest from the Middle East which has remained after failing to secure a deal in the transfer window.
De Bruyne has missed City’s last four games in all competitions with a hamstring injury, having missed 35 games for club and country with the same injury last season.
In the 2023-24 season, on top of the 35 games missed due to his hamstring blow, the midfielder also missed another six games through fitness-related concerns.
Brown has now revealed that he has heard whispers coming out of the Etihad that, at this stage of his career, there are growing concerns about his fitness issues.
Man City concerned over Kevin de Bruyne injuries as Saudi Arabia move on cards
Pep Guardiola spectacularly ruled out De Bruyne’s exit in the summer, but with concerns growing at City and his contract ticking down, he could be edging closer to a move away.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience with players at the top level after his time at Man United, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and multiple other top clubs, has insisted the midfielder may feel the time has come to collect a final big payday.
“I think a big offer could be enough to tempt him away,” he told Football Insider.
“I’ve heard there are concerns about whether his legs might be going and whether he might become an injury liability after his recent knocks.
“If that scenrio is true, then he would know that as well as anybody.
“He’ll be looking at a move out there for a pay day.
“He can play at a lower level of football with less pressure but higher wages on offer.
“That’s a decision he and City have got to make between them, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see that move happen.”
