Exclusive: Newcastle explore new striker signing, Wilson plan revealed

Newcastle United are exploring the market to sign another striker this summer to improve their attacking options for next season, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the north-east giants would like to bring in another forward to work under Alexander Isak, 24, and Callum Wilson, 32.

Isak has recently been linked with a move away from St James’ Park following his outstanding season in the Premier League.

The Tynesiders registered 85 goals across the campaign – the fourth-highest record in the Premier League – but Eddie Howe still wants to sign another striker after Wilson missed a large chunk of the season through injury.

Newcastle keen to provide striker support for Alexander Isak

The Newcastle boss is keen to strengthen his squad after his side missed out on a European spot for next season.

That has ramped up the speculation around whether Isak could potentially leave the club this summer in pursuit of Champions League football.

Football Insider revealed last month Arsenal have added the Swede to a four-man shortlist of potential forward signings this summer.

Isak enjoyed a fine campaign last season after scoring 25 goals in 40 games, prompting Newcastle to open talks with him over a bumper new contract.

Howe would like to sign another forward to help share the load with Isak, but finances could be a problem as the Tyneside club are believed to be close to breaching the profit and sustainability (PSR) rules.

There has also been speculation around Wilson’s future at St James’ Park after he featured just six times in the Premier League this calendar year due to a chest injury.

Despite his injury problems, Football Insider previously revealed Howe and his coaching staff are keen to keep the England international as they believe he is one of the best strikers in the top flight on his day.
