Exclusive: Peterborough respond to Bolton Wanderers offer

Peterborough United have rejected a six-figure offer from Bolton Wanderers for Joel Randall, sources have told Football Insider.

Randall, 24, impressed last season as he scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 56 appearances from midfield as Posh fell to a defeat in the playoff semi-final.

Sources now say League One rivals Bolton are now plotting a second, improved offer for the midfielder in a bid to strengthen their promotion effort.

Bolton fell to the same fate as Peterborough as they were also defeated in the playoff semi-finals, and will look to weaken their rivals with a move for Randall.

Randall made his Football League breakthrough season with Exeter City in 2020-21, and was quickly snapped up by Posh that summer for a fee upwards of £1million.

He has since made 84 appearances for the club in League One and the Championship, and has established himself as a key player in the team.

His 12 goals last time out saw him finish just behind Ephrom Mason-Clark as the club’s second-top scorer, proving his importance to Darren Ferguson’s side.

Randall has just one year remaining on his deal at London Road, with Bolton looking to take advantage of his situation with no new deal on the table as things stand.

After Bolton tested the waters with a six-figure bid, outspoken Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony is likely to hold out for a fee closer to what they paid three years ago.
