Journalist moots future nine-figure fee for Branthwaite amid Man United interest

Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite can command a fee on par with what Aston Villa received from Manchester City for Jack Grealish in time, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Chris Beesley’s article [9 June] outlines the supposed poor decision by Gareth Southgate not to include Branthwaite – or Everton defensive partner James Tarkowski for that matter – in his Euro 2024 squad, and claims the Toffees could eventually recoup a fee similar to the £100million City paid Villa for fellow Three Lions omission Grealish.

Branthwaite has been heavily linked with Manchester United amid fears that the club will have to part with a key player in order to raise funds by 30 June to remain in line with PSR criteria.

“Those who play alongside Branthwaite or who watch him on a regular basis can see that he’s got it all,” Beesley declared.

“If the aforementioned Grealish can command a nine-figure fee then so in time can Branthwaite and given his tender age and the premium for left-footed centre-backs and English players, there’s no reason he can’t be worth even more than a £100m in a few years’ time if his development continues on its current steep trajectory.

“Despite being in need of a quick sale to try and avoid another PSR breach after two separate points deductions for such offences this season, the party line from Everton remains that they don’t expect to lose Branthwaite.”

Jarrad Branthwaite could provide major Everton windfall

Following his exceptional season, it is a major shock that Branthwaite will not be on the plane to Germany, yet his stock is incredibly high even despite the snub.

If Everton are to buckle under the mounting pressure of a lucrative sum of money, it would have to be this month.

Manchester United look to be in pole position, but could find external interest ascend into a concrete bid for the defender if, as would be expected, Everton swiftly rebuff their first couple of offers.

Succession planning is in emergency progress at Goodison Park, with Burnley defender Maxime Esteve identified as a potential replacement [The Sunday People, 9 June]., but the prime situation for Everton is that Branthwaite can stay a blue for at least another season.

In the meantime, the likes of Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be likelier to depart this summer, with Onana open to a ‘big six’ move and Calvert-Lewin having just a year remaining on his current deal amid Newcastle United interest.

In other Everton news, a conflict of interest has been reported in Michael Dell’s efforts to acquire a stake in the club.
