'I've been told': Fabrizio Romano shares what Eddie Howe said to Newcastle owners after Alexander Isak links to Chelsea

Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak amidst interest from Chelsea.

Newcastle have had a hectic few days leading up to the end of the financial year as they look to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations.

In the midst of it, Chelsea made an approach for Isak and it seemed as though a deal might be possible with The Magpies needing to sell before the deadline, as such.

However, after the sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, it’s now unlikely the club will have to sell any of their top assets and Romano has just shared what Eddie Howe told the owners after Chelsea’s enquiry.

Fabrizio Romano says Eddie Howe demanded owners to keep Alexander Isak

Writing in his Caught Offside column, Romano provided an insightful update on what Howe told Newcastle owners.

“Another big name at Newcastle who’s made the headlines is Alexander Isak, but nothing is happening with Chelsea,” the transfer specialist wrote.

“We know that Chelsea appreciate this talented striker, but it’s almost impossible because Newcastle want to keep him, and I’ve been told that Eddie Howe, over the weekend, was very clear with the Newcastle board and owners about not wanting Isak to leave the club.”

TBR exclusively reported last month that Newcastle laughed off the idea that Anthony Gordon would depart this summer and that notion also applied to Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle over PSR hurdle

Newcastle now seem to be over the PSR hurdle and they can look towards making a number of new additions in the market.

Having narrowly missed out on European football last term, the onus will be on Howe to finish inside the top six.

With the right acquisitions, namely in defence and potentially up front to replace Callum Wilson, they’ll have every chance of challenging the traditional big six.
