Exclusive: Significant Patrick Bamford update today

Patrick Bamford is planning to leave Leeds United next summer and join a new club after growing frustrated under Daniel Farke, sources have told Football Insider.

The striker admitted that he had considered leaving Elland Road upon their relegation from the Premier League but experienced a late change of heart not to take “the easy way out”.

However, sources say his lack of first-team football so far this season has led to a growing possibility that he will look to leave in the summer of 2025.

Bamford has featured just four times so far this season and started just once after a hamstring injury limited his availability, but has seen his place in the squad become less important.

The 31-year-old has fallen behind both Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph in the pecking order under Farke, and a split is growing more likely.

After six years at the club since joining from Middlesbrough in 2018, sources say the striker is keen on a change of location and an increase in game time.

His contract is due to expire in the summer of 2026, and there is a feeling that Leeds could look to cash in at the end of this season rather than see him leave for free.

Bamford confessed his decision to remain at Elland Road in the Championship came with the desire to help them reach promotion back to the Premier League.

However, his eight goals in 33 league appearances last time out did little to help their cause as they were defeated by Southampton in the playoff final.

As a result, Farke had been looking for a more reliable number nine to lead the line on a regular basis, with Joseph providing that option this season.

The 20-year-old Spaniard, who came through the academy setup at Leeds, has scored once and provided three assists in nine league appearances so far this season.

As a result of his emergence as the first-choice forward, with Piroe often chosen to replace him, Bamford’s influence on the squad has been delivered a heavy blow.

It is thought an agreement could be reached between the striker and the hierarchy at Leeds that they will consider offers for his signature should they arrive at the end of the season.

The striker has also faced heavy backlash from fans since the beginning of last season, and his recent injury issues led to calls for his contract to be “terminated”.

The frosty relationship with the supporters at Elland Road had also played a part in the striker’s previous exit decision, and that fracture has not yet been restored.
