Man United are still weighing up options to replace Erik ten Hag as big names are dropping out of their managerial search, according to the club’s former scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at United for over a decade during their most successful period including as chief scout and assistant manager, exclusively told Football Insider that managers are not keen to take over at Old Trafford given the struggles they have faced in recent seasons.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that concerns about the level of the players at the club had put potential bosses including Massimiliano Allegri off of the job.

Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate, one of INEOS’ top options for the role, has ruled himself out of club management for the foreseeable future.

Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, is reportedly in negotiations about taking over from Lee Carsley as the next England manager in another blow to United’s plans.

Eddie Howe was also linked with taking over at Man United as well as England, but reports have now claimed he has no desire to leave Newcastle.

Ten Hag is facing increasing pressure over his position, with the club having gone without a win in their last five games and sitting 14th in the Premier League table.

As a result, the club’s top brass had already begun weighing up their options to replace the boss, but have struggled to find a firm top target.

Football Insider revealed on 7 October that the club chiefs were set to meet to discuss the manager’s future during the international break.

With several potential replacements seemingly ruling themselves out of the running for the position, the decision of whether to replace Ten Hag has become more difficult for the club’s hierarchy.

Brown, who also spent a period as Sir Alex Ferguson’s number two and remains very well-connected at Old Trafford, insisted that top bosses are concerned about the way the club have been performing both on and off the pitch in recent years.

These managers aren’t daft,” he told Football Insider.

They’ll be looking at Manchester United, seeing how things are being run and the issues they’ve had in recent times, and wondering why they’d want to be part of that.

“That’s why they all seem to be dropping out of the running or talking about other jobs.

“It all comes down to the decision-making from the club and what people on the outside see.

“In recent years, that hasn’t been good. The club is a mess as things stand, and these top managers won’t want to step into that situation.

“Even under Ten Hag who has been backed by the club, things have never gone to plan.

“That’s going to be a problem when it comes to finding other managers now.”
