Tottenham have made an approach to sign Atalanta defender Ben Godfrey, sources have told Football Insider.
Spurs have been in contact with the Serie A club about signing the former Everton star as they look to ease their recent defensive crisis.
It is believed that Tottenham are looking to sign Godfrey on a short-term loan deal for the second half of the season.
The 26-year-old is primarily a centre-back, but can play anywhere across the back four if needed, providing some extra stability to Ange Postecoglou’s back line.
Tottenham are currently without their first-choice centre-back duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, who have both been sidelined by injuries.
Archie Gray filled in at centre-back alongside Radu Dragusin as Spurs were thumped 6-3 by Liverpool on Sunday (22 December), while Djed Spence filled in at left-back.

Godfrey left Everton to join Atalanta in the summer in a deal worth £10million, but has since made just five appearances for the Serie A outfit, only two of which have come in the league.
As a result, there is a growing belief that a return to England could be on the cards after just six months, with multiple clubs put on alert by his situation.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 14 December that Nottingham Forest and Wolves are among four Premier League clubs trying to sign the defender in January.
Now, though, Tottenham have emerged as the front-runners for his signature and are pushing to get a deal over the line as a short-term answer to their defensive woes.
A new defender was thought to be the top priority for Postecoglou’s side heading into next month’s transfer window, and work has already begun on a move.
Football Insider revealed on 10 December that Postecoglou would be given funds to strengthen his defence in January, and work has already begun on the deal.
In other news, Tottenham have accelerated talks over a new goalkeeper signing.
