Newcastle star Anthony Gordon has praised teammate Alexander Isak after his hattrick in their 4-0 win over Ipswich on Saturday (December 21).

The 25-year-old striker opened the scoring in the first minute, capitalising on Sam Morsy’s failed clearance before a lengthy VAR check cleared Jacob Murphy as onside.

Gordon, 23, then got the assist for Newcastle’s second, laying Murphy off before the winger emphatically finished off the underside of the crossbar.

Isak then bagged his brace just ahead of half-time, pouncing on the newly-promoted side’s attempt to play out from the back, making it 3-0.

The Sweden international scored his third and final goal shortly after the break, finishing from close range with a cheeky toe poke to secure all three points for Eddie Howe’s side.

Newcastle’s win over Ipswich took them up to eighth with 26 points from their 17 Premier League games, one point off Man City in seventh.

Isak has once again been Newcastle’s main attacking threat this season, starting all 18 of his games across all competitions, scoring 11 goals, and providing four assists across 1433 minutes of action.

Gordon, who hasn’t been as productive as Isak in terms of goal contributions, is also key, starting 17 of his 20 games, scoring three goals, and providing four assists in his 1489 minutes on the field.

The England international took to Instagram after their impressive win over Ipswich to congratulate Isak, saying: “Strong week, congrats Isak,” to which Isak responded: “Thank you starboy.”

Newcastle will host fellow European qualification hopefuls Aston Villa on Boxing Day (December 26) knowing a win could see them end the day in fifth.

Howe’s side will then travel to Ruben Amorim’s struggling Man United in their last game of the hectic festive period.
