Dan Bardell can’t see Everton signing Joel Matip due to his injury concerns and age.

Caught Offside reported on 5 August that the Toffees looked set to battle Fulham and Bayer Leverkusen to sign the ex-Cameroon international.

The 32-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Merseyside rivals Liverpool at the end of his contract.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell doesn’t believe the defender will move to Goodison given his injury troubles and potential wage demands.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “There is no chance of Matip going to Everton.

They already have Branthwaite and Tarkowski who are their number one paring. They’ve added Jake O’Brien from Lyon as well and they’ve still got Michael Keane.

They won’t bring in an aging player who has just come back from a long term injury.

These are the kind of moves that have got Everton in financial trouble over the years.

Everton warned off signing Joel Matip

The last time a player transferred directly between Liverpool and Everton was Abel Xavier in January 2002.

Matip could now become the next star to do so if rumours linking him with a move to the blue side of Merseyside are to be believed.

Reports have suggested that the former Schalke man has already held talks with the Toffees so a move could still be possible.

With that being said, does Sean Dyche really need to sign another centre-back?

Matip would bring plenty of experience to the Everton squad but with the options that they already possess his game time is likely to be hampered.

If the Cameroonian is to take a wage drop and be happy to feature as a third or even fourth-choice option, a deal could make sense.

If not, Dyche needs to steer clear and focus on the positive options like Branthwaite, Tarkowski, and O’Brien, which he already has.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers has issued an update as the Toffees now want to sign a £25m-rated ‘Explosive’ central midfielder.
