Everton contact Euro club over brand-new transfer as £30m update emerges - report

Everton have made contact with Strasbourg to enquire about Habib Diarra, according to TEAMtalk.

The news outlet reported online on Wednesday (7 August) that the Toffees are keen to sign a brand-new midfielder, with Diarra on their list.

However, the club have been informed that any transfer for the 20-year-old will cost at least £30million.

This comes as a major blow for Everton as that is out of the club’s price range.

It looks as though the Toffees might need to back down in their pursuit of Diarra.

Although the club might be keen to add him to their ranks, they cannot afford to be spending big money on unproven talent.

Diarra is still only 20 years old and therefore there is every chance that he might not be a success in the Premier League.

And considering the club’s current financial struggles, Everton can not afford to take any big-money transfer gambles.

The club have held talks with Diarra’s inner circle (via Caught Offside, 30 July), demonstrating that they do have a keen interest in the player. However, with a £30million price tag in place, that interest is unlikely to go any further.

Nonetheless, Sean Dyche will still be keen to add some bodies in the middle of the park. As a result, the club will now need to identify brand-new, cheaper targets in midfield.
