Ally McCoist has slammed Rangers ace Vaclav Cerny after his “poor” miss as Rangers beat Malmo 2-0.

The Gers dominated the first half of the game and even managed to find themselves ahead within the first minute of the game thanks to a European debut goal from Nedim Bajrami.

Philippe Clement’s men had a few chances after their opener but Cerny’s miss when he was one-on-one with the ‘keeper at the end of the first half was by far the worst of the lot.

Speaking live on TNT Sports 2 (26 September, 18:27pm) McCoist and Rory Hamilton shared their thoughts on Cerny’s miss with the latter saying it was a “head in hands” moment.

“Head in his hands for Vaclav Cerny,” Hamilton said.

To which McCoist replied: “He’s just got to score, it’s simple.

“I mean he’s got all the time in the world. He’s onside and it’s a poor finish, it’s not even close to going in, you’ve got to hit the target there.”

Vaclav Cerny has to do better for Rangers

Cerny was brought in during the summer transfer window to help bolster the Gers’ attacking ranks.

While Clement has opted to use the winger more often than many would’ve likely thought, it still feels like he could offer a lot more to the team.

Much like Cyriel Dessers, the winger gets given many chances but can’t seem to find the back of the net.

Although he said earlier in the week that he enjoys the pressure from Gers fans to win each game, it feels as if he’s crumbling under it at the moment [Daily Record, 25 September].

With Oscar Cortes being sidelined once again, the Czech Republic international will likely be called upon for their next few games [PLZ Soccer, 25 September].

If this is the case, he needs to pick up his form and ensure his final-third play is spot on otherwise, when the Colombian returns, he could find himself straight out of the starting XI.
