'Excuse' - Keith Jackson hits out at James Bisgrove after latest Rangers saga at Ibrox

Keith Jackson has insisted it was no surprise that James Bisgrove quit Rangers following the latest redevelopment setbacks at Ibrox.

Chris Jack [20 June] broke the news that the Gers would be unable to play their opening matches of the 2024/25 campaign at Ibrox due to lengthy redevelopment delays on the Copland Road stand.

While the club is still attempting to piece together a contingency plan, Jackson admitted that it only gives the club and “Slippery” Bisgrove another excuse.

Reacting to the news via the Daily Record on Saturday (22 June, page 51), he said: “It’s another self-inflicted wound and it gives Philippe Clement and his players an excuse to fail before a ball has even been kicked.

“No wonder the slippery James Bisgrove couldn’t wait to get out of town.”

Following the confirmation last month that Bisgrove would be exiting the club with immediate effect, the club have been trying to put the pieces back together again with a team made up of Clement, Nils Koppen and John Bennett. [Rangers]

It was already a tough start to the summer transfer window, having left the club quite surprisingly after five years at Ibrox, and the latest updates coming from the club will, of course, be of no help.

The redevelopment setbacks could very well set the tone for Rangers’ season before it has even begun, with Champions League qualification to compete in as well as the Scottish Premiership.

Ibrox is seen as one of the most famous stadiums in the United Kingdom, mainly due to its passionate crowds, though that factor could be massively reduced depending on the club’s temporary home next season.

On the other hand, Bisgrove’s exit does not seem to be having too much of an impact on the transfer activity this summer, with Clement already adding Connor Barron, Jefte and Clinton Nsiala to the squad, as well as re-signing Oscar Cortes on loan.

Bisgrove can be used as a scapegoat for as long as the Gers want to, but the club would likely be in the same position in terms of squad additions and stadium redevelopment if he were still at the helm.

In other Rangers news, Four Lads reacted immediately after the club made Connor Barron’s summer transfer official.
