Stephen McGowan: Rangers finally 'come clean' after weeks of Ibrox rumours

Stephen McGowan has insisted that Rangers have finally come clean after weeks of rumours surrounding the Ibrox delays.

Writing in the Scottish Daily Mail‘s print edition (22 June, Page 111), McGowan was reacting to the redevelopment of Ibrox’s Copland Road Stand being delayed [Chris Jack].

Rangers will now be without Ibrox in August and are currently in line to play elsewhere in two rounds of Champions League qualifiers and the first matches of next season’s Premiership.

He wrote: “After weeks of rumour, Rangers have come clean on their issues with the completion of building work on the Copland Road stand.”

Rangers still house-hunting after Ibrox redevelopments

The Gers not playing their home matches at Ibrox will certainly provide a strange experience for Philippe Clement’s side, particularly given that side is going to be jam-packed with new faces next season.

Clement is spearheading an overhaul of his squad, and thus it seems likely that new signings’ first matches in front of a home crowd won’t come at Ibrox [The Scotsman].

The club seemingly remain no closer to deciding where they’ll play the first few matches of next season, but the SFA are open to reaching an agreement over Hampden Park [Daily Mail].

Moving across the country to Murrayfield could alienate fans, but with nowhere else having a capacity big enough to house the 50,000 regularly seen at Ibrox, moving to a rugby stadium in Edinburgh could be the best option.

With Clement hoping to build the siege mentality needed to beat Celtic next season, a brief move to a new city could be exactly what his new-look side needs.

In other Rangers news, club legend Ally McCoist has issued a new Lawrence Shankland transfer verdict.
