Ibrox View: Rangers likely sell perfect pitch to in-demand player as transfer news emerges

Rangers confirmed the transfer of Connor Barron on 20 June, making him the Ibrox outfit’s fourth summer signing.

The 21-year-old has agreed on a four-year contract and moved to the Glasgow club instead of moving elsewhere.

Bologna, Hellas Verona, Plymouth, Stoke, Cardiff and Swansea were in the chase to secure his services but Gers have won the chase. [The Scottish Sun]

It seems Gers successfully pitched their vision to Barron, convincing the young midfielder to choose Ibrox over a host of other suitors.

Given the wide range of clubs keen, the Ibrox outfit were able to present an attractive proposition to the 21-year-old, one that outweighed the allure of playing in Italy’s top-flight or the English second tier.

Perhaps it was the promise of regular first-team football, the opportunity to compete in European competitions, or the chance to be part of a squad with ambitions of challenging for domestic titles that swayed Barron’s decision.

Whatever the specifics of Rangers’ pitch, it seems to have been compelling enough to convince the Aberdeen academy graduate to commit his future to the Ibrox club.

It remains to be seen how Philippe Clement plans on integrating him into the team and whether or not he sees him as first-team ready.

The fact that he joined on a free transfer means that it’s a low-risk acquisition and a bit of shrewd business from the club.
