Expert: Liverpool plan to make Van Dijk announcement soon

Liverpool are planning for Virgil van Dijk to commit his future to the club by signing a new contract before the end of the year.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that he is confident an agreement will be reached with the 33-year-old this month.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that there is a growing confidence that both Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah will put pen to paper on new deals.

Now, Brown has explained that Liverpool want to announce the deal in the coming weeks which would provide a boost to the club and the fans going into the second half of the season.

Arne Slot’s side are currently top of the league with a four-point gap to second-placed Chelsea and with a game in hand after the Everton clash was postponed.

The news that their captain has committed his future to the club and the project is expected to give further inspiration to the title challenge and the backing from the stands.

Speculation over the centre-back’s future had been rampant with less than a year remaining on his current contract, but there is now confidence he will put pen to paper.

Brown, who has worked closely with players at the top level and has a wealth of experience in recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that the announcement will be a “PR job” by the Reds.

“I’m confident he will sign a new contract,” he told Football Insider.

“From what I’m told, Liverpool want to have it all agreed before the January transfer window.

“The announcement that he has put pen to paper would be a major boost for the club and the supporters heading into the rest of the season.

“Being able to announce the supporters that he has signed a new deal would give them a boost at a time where they’re top of the league.

“That’s now what I am expecting to happen based on what I’ve heard.

“It’s a PR job for the club as much as anything else, in terms of the announcement, and a big boost for Arne Slot and his team too, keeping their captain.

“I don’t think Van Dijk ever wanted to leave, the only question would be about money but that isn’t an issue for Liverpool.”
